Due to the differences in the contents of national roundwood market statistics, the actual price levels are not comparable between the countries. Indexed nominal prices, however, can be used to compare the prevailing price trends in different countries. Price indices’ base period is January 2018.

The index value of a timber assortment in a given country and time reveal price change in relation to the base period. Comparisons of the developments of price indices between the individual countries reveal, whether there have been similar trends, such as coinciding up- and downswings, in the roundwood markets of the individual countries. In addition, comparisons of the slopes of the price indices between the countries show whether the prices are increasing or decreasing in some countries faster or slower than in the others.
