The plant disease situation in Finland is good in international comparison. For example, not all of the plant pests which require spraying treatment in Central Europe are present in Finland. This good situation is partly due to our climate. Less pesticides are needed in Finland as in more southern countries, which is also reflected in the comparative statistics on plant protection products. On the other hand, Finland has a long history in the prevention of plant diseases, while low pesticide residues are proof of low and responsible use of pesticides.
