In 2021, Finnish slaughterhouses slaughtered a total of 258,500 bovine animals, resulting in 86 million kilogrammes of bone-in meat. Although the number of animals for slaughter decreased by more than two percent over ten years, beef production increased by 6 percent at the same time due to the increase in average slaughter weight. In the EU (27 countries), the corresponding meat production in 2021 totalled 6,802 million kilos, which is 1.5 percent higher than 10 years earlier. Finland’s production accounted for 1,3% of EU27 production.

The largest producers of beef are France, with 1,424 million and Germany with 1,072 million kilos, followed by Italy with 748 million and Spain with 718 million kilos.

In 2021, pork production in Finland totalled 176 million kilos, for which a total of 1.93 million pigs were slaughtered. Pork production was 10 per cent lower than 10 years earlier. In the EU (27 countries), the corresponding meat production in 2021 totalled 23,394 million kilos, which is over nine percent more than 10 years earlier. Finland’s production accounted for 075 percent of EU production.

The largest producers of pork are Spain, with 5,180 million and ermany with 4,965 million kilos, followed by France with 2,203 million, Poland with 1,976 million, Denmark with 1,724 million and the Netherlands with 1,719 million kilos.

In 2021, 147 million kilos (= 82 million animals) of poultry meat was slaughtered in Finland. The production is 37% more than 10 years earlier. No official EU level statistics are available on the total amount of poultry meat production. Finnish poultry meat production is estimated to account for over one percent of the EU’s total production.

The largest producers of poultry meat are Poland with 2,540 million kilos, France with 1,646 million kilos, and Spain with 1 629 million kilos, followed by Germany with 1,588 million and Italy with 1,376 million kilos.

ABout 1.23 million kilos of sheep meat were produced in Finland in 2021. The amount has increased by over 40% in the last 10 years. No official EU level statistics on the total production of sheep meat and goat meat are available. Finnish sheep meat production is estimated to account for almost 0.3% of the EU27’s total sheep meat production.

The largest sheep meat producers are Spain with 120 million kilos and Farnce with 82 million kilos.
