WP2 New agricultural and forest management methods in mitigating the GHG emissions - Novel soil management practices – key for sustainable bioeconomy and climate change mitigation (SOMPA)

The Work Package deals with new methods in managing agricultural and forested peatlands to mitigate GHG emissions. Raising of the ground water level, catch crops, no-till and addition of biochar are tested on cultivated peat soils while continuous cover forestry is tested in peatland forests.

The aims are

To supply information about the effects of the new practices to the landowners
To remove any obstacles for implementing the new methods
To estimate how much the novel peat soil management practices reduce GHG emissions from the land use sector
