The Work Package deals with new methods in managing agricultural and forested peatlands to mitigate GHG emissions. Raising of the ground water level, catch crops, no-till and addition of biochar are tested on cultivated peat soils while continuous cover forestry is tested in peatland forests.
The aims are
- To supply information about the effects of the new practices to the landowners
- To remove any obstacles for implementing the new methods
- To estimate how much the novel peat soil management practices reduce GHG emissions from the land use sector
