The European common agricultural policy (CAP) is currently being outlined, and the realization of the emission reduction potential of peatlands is also being discussed. Would paludiculture turn peat fields from a problem into a solution?
A number of European research institutes and associations received a request from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG Agri) to provide further information on wetland cultivation in the context of the CAP negotiations. The SOMPA project was also involved in drafting a policy brief for this purpose, which defines what paludiculture is.
DG Agri was also provided with a list of plants suitable for paludiculture and their products.
