Workshops in the MENU project: Scenario calculations with Mela2.0 software

The aim of the MENU project is to upgrade MELA software into a new software ecosystem. The main purpose of both MELA software and Mela2.0 software is to provide a research tool that is based on a NFI dataset interface and tree-wise models. The tool is aimed to be suitable for calculation of felling potentials, greenhouse gas projections as well as for scenario and impact assessments of energy and climate …

Workshops in the MENU project: Centralized model function library and its user interface

The aim of the MENU project is to modernise and upgrade the MELA software into an innovative software called Mela2.0 which will provide scientific transparency and enable versatile and collaborative research. Should the work succeed beyond expectations, the project results may even be utilised internationally. The Mela2.0 software will be more versatile and scalable than its predecessor. However, to achieve vital qualities such as user-friendliness and suitability, it is necessary …

Results from the MENU project: Data editor speeds up and secures the processing of NFI data

One of the most important uses for the MELA software is to generate different kinds of estimates of forest production and utilisation. The data source used in these calculations are the NFI field surveys. During the summer term, around 20 different groups of field surveyors from Natural Resources Institute Finland collect the data yearly from approximately 14,000 survey plots. The process of checking, complementing and processing the large amount of …
