One aim of Manure Standards is to provide farmers with a tools suitable for manure sampling and analysis. The manure tool based on sampling, analysis and the farm survey will be tested on the pilot farms during spring and summer 2018. Measured values from the manure analyses are an alternative method to calculated values, and both can be used in nutrient bookkeeping including manure fertilisation plans on farms. Results from the two methods will be used, and also compared, in work packages 3 and 4.
Spring sampling at the pilot farms has now started. Almost 900 manure samples will be collected and analysed within the project this season. All the Baltic Sea countries are participating in sampling.
The project is also working on developing a guidebook and instructional video for on-farm sampling. Those and the results of sampling in pilot farms are shared later on – follow the website and Twitter page @ManureStandards to keep yourself up to date!
