Elders and resource persons have been interviewed by BuSK and school children in Greenland about their memories on hunting trips and hunting travels. In BuSK project these memories have been located, digitally preserved and published. The case study for Greenland covers an area just above the Arctic Circle between the west coast of Greenland and the Greenland Ice Sheet. On-going land use activities such as forestry, mining and wind power developments need better coordination with traditional reindeer herding activity. One case where RenGIS serves as a planning tool for herding community is a new high-speed train line along the coast in northern Sweden. Rapid recession of the glacier beside a popular tourist destination worries local people in southeast Iceland. Local operators are becoming more and more dependent on tourism that is still entirely based on natural attractions. At the same time, however, the area is very dynamic and constantly facing environmental change and subsequent risk. Development of participatory land-use mapping system (PPGIS) for local communities and other land users is the main focus in BuSK project. Two of such PPGIS surveys have been now launched for public and for stakeholders. Many land-use modes have conflictual relations in the northernmost parts of Finland. An important goal of the BuSK project is to involve local stakeholders and end users from the very beginning of the project. Therefore, WP1 organized a first meeting for Kilpisjärvi village people in August 22nd. After the short presentation of the BuSK project Gaute Svensson from the Arctic University of Norway, Tromsø told about planning in Reisa National Park. BuSK Kick-off meeting was held in Rovaniemi, Finland, in June 7th–June 8th. Twenty-five participants from all eleven partner countries/regions attended the meeting.
