Wood imports from Russia to Finland in 2019

In 2019, 8.73 million cubic meters of wood was imported to Finland from Russia. The total wood imports increased by two per cent, while the volume of wood imported from Russia increased by six per cent. Proposal for indirect ban on softwood export rejected

The proposal for an indirect ban on softwood export has been rejected by the Russian Duma without consideration. The proposal was left to the Duma in 2018 and it was justified by increasing wood exports, in particular to China. According to the proposal,  softwood harvesting would have been permitted until the end of 2030 only for processing and use in the territory of the Russian Federation. Logging companies in difficulties in Russia

The exceptionally warm winter has caused difficulties for logging companies in Russia. The lack of ice roads and the poor condition of forest roads have caused problems in wood transportation. Segezha Group acquired Finnish sawmill in Kostamuksha

The Segezha Group has acquired Karelian Wood Company, a sawmill owned by Pin Arctic Oy in Kostomuksha in the Republic of Karelia. A new national park, ‘Koigorodski’, has been established in the Republic of Komi with an area of 56,700 hectares.
