The Russian Government does not support Sveza’s plan to build a new pulp mill in the Vologda region.
The State Duma deputy from Yaroslavl region expressed her concern about the state of the environment to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin during his visit to Yaroslavl region. According to Mishustin, the Rybinski Reservoir cannot withstand the additional load caused by the pulp mill. The mill would worsen the state of the environment and the company cannot provide sufficient justification to refute this. Therefore, the Government does not support the plan. I think we will end the debate on this, Mishustin says.
The construction of the pulp mill has aroused considerable opposition, especially in the Vologda and Yaroslavl regions. The media has started speculating on the new location of the pulp mill, Perm region in the Urals has been suggested.
