The METAFor project, coordinated by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), is developing a multi-level education and training program to maintain sustainable use of forests in Finland and Russia. In addition to teaching, the three-year Multi-level Education Towards Advanced Forestry (METAFor) project relies on the power of training events and seminars.
During the project, about twenty educational and teaching events will be organized in Finland and Russia for university students, schoolchildren and forest professionals. All teaching materials will be made available after the end of the project. In Finland, the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry at the University of Helsinki is responsible for the development of teaching.
In addition to Luke, the universities of Helsinki and Lappeenranta, the St. Petersburg Forest Technical University and the Forest Research Institute of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Science are also participating in the project. The project steering group consists of representatives from Metsäteho Oy, the Finnish Forest Industries, Metsähallitus and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. From Russia, the steering group is represented, among others, by the Federal Forestry Agency, which is part of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology. The research is funded by the South East Finland – Russia CBC Program.
